Taxpayers need to know graffiti issue is being addressed

Once again, McHugh Street between the arena and the soccer field has been targeted with graffiti. The overpass and the west facing wall of one of the buildings has been hit, and this time it is worse than previously noticed.

A short distance beyond this area, light poles, utility boxes, etc. have been targeted and this is all within a very short period of time.

As a taxpayer, I would like to know the measures that the City of Windsor takes in tracking down these individuals. If nothing is done to curtail this damage to city and personal property, it no doubt will continue.

I lived in California for 14 years and in the city where I lived, there were aggressive measures taken to get rid of graffiti and it has been very successful. In The Windsor Star of  Nov. 25, 2006, in the opinion column, I wrote about graffiti and the measures that some communities will take to get rid of it.

Graffiti removers Nicolaus Richard, right, and Jovon Kedding use lots of elbow grease and extra-strength cleansers to remove graffiti from Canada Post transfer boxes Friday November 12, 2010. They were participating in the Good Neighbour Services of St. Leonard's House on the day dedicated to random acts of kindness. (Windsor Star files)

In the Lompoc Record: dated Jan. 25, 2011, titled “Police arrest accused graffiti vandal,” a male juvenile was arrested and will be charged for 25 cases of graffiti causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

The graffiti that I am writing about today is widespread and appears to involve more than one individual. Can the Windsor Police and The Windsor Star agree to take some measures to put a stop to this?

Can a collage of the individual “signatures” be put in The Windsor Star with a posted reward for information? Taxpayers need to know that something is being done.
